Good day today , and thanks to my Jeep being in the shop for a while yet I saved a bunch of money on gas (not as much as I paid for the rental, tho).

Courtesy the Swayzee town sign, I discovered this curious game. Must have been exhausting to watch and play.

This gorgeous XJ was well-hidden; I couldn’t help but wonder whether they parked it deep in the woods because they didn’t want people stopping to ask about it. I sure wanted to.
Learned a bit about Indiana/Ohio natural history. Lake Maumee, who knew?
And some random photos from on foot, not my preferred state of being but it happens.
Willkie for president, 2020.

I was going to save this for tomorrow, but since we were due for an hour rule post anyway, here it be.

Aw man the slammed C10 with the shortened bed is amazing. I’d drive it just like that.

What did you end up renting?
Also I need to take road trips exploring the area around me, that might help with this cabin fever.

Have you visited the Badlands off-road park in Attica, IN?
I used to go a couple times a year.
I was working in Lafayette last week and drove pretty close.

Yeah, road trips are pretty much the only thing keeping me sane right now.
I tried to rent an Escape through Turo, mainly because it was cheap and very close, but the owner (thankfully) tested it after I made my reservation and discovered the brakes weren’t working correctly.
So I rented the next closest tolerable car, a Corolla. Happened to be the same owner from whom I rented an S2000 last summer ; he has quite the business through Turo. He has 7 or 8 cars, I think, scatters them around a bit.

I’ve been there a few times, but not since 2017 I think. The Jeep has been way too flaky to go off-roading.
I think I may have discovered the root of many of my problems, though: motor mounts and lower control arms were failing. I think, although this is far from my area of expertise, that the ball joints, transmission, and other front-end problems I’ve been having may be due to the engine shifting around.

I like the Corolla, solid car and pretty decent on gravel.
I wonder how one makes much doing that, seems like you’d have to have interesting cars or live in a super populated place.
Never done Turo before, always used the major rental companies usually at Hertz I can get a compact for under $40 a day so it's usually cheap enough.

I like the variety and ability to pick a specific model, although a Corolla didn’t exactly inspire me. The Escape had a sunroof I was looking forward to using, and by the time that was canceled late last night , Turo was effectively my only choice.
